Alpha yohimbine, also called rauwolscine, and yohimbine HCl are closely related plant compounds. Both appear in thermogenic fat burners, both are stimulant-like, and both need careful dosing. They are not the same ingredient, though, and the label should tell you which one you are taking.

Where each one comes from

Yohimbine HCl is usually made from the bark of the African yohimbe tree. Alpha yohimbine (rauwolscine) is a close cousin found mainly in Rauvolfia plants. Both act on the same receptors involved in the body's 'fight or flight' signals, which is why they are used in energy and fat-burning formulas.

Frequently asked questions

Is alpha yohimbine the same as yohimbine?

No. They are closely related compounds from different plants. Alpha yohimbine is also called rauwolscine; yohimbine HCl usually comes from yohimbe bark.

What are rauwolscine side effects?

The most common are jitters, a faster heart rate, restlessness and anxiety, especially at higher doses or when combined with caffeine.

Which is stronger?

Alpha yohimbine is used at lower milligram doses, so labels are not directly comparable. Always follow your product's directions and start low.

Can I take alpha yohimbine every day?

Many formulas are designed for daily use at label doses. Take breaks if you feel overstimulated, and talk to a doctor if you have any health condition.
